Crown Prince Felipe and Crown Princess Letizia of Spain’s tour of Hungary was the ideal way to strengthen ties of goodwill with one of the European Union’s most recent members. TRHs arrived in the capital, Budapest, to promote bilateral relations, which have been virtually non-existent over recent years. During the visit, Felipe and Letizia were accompanied by Spain’s education minister, Maria Jesus Sansegundo.1905 FOCUS

The official section of the visit began the following day, as Hungary’s President Ferenc Madel welcomed the Spanish delegation with full honours at Sandor Palace. Felipe and Letizia went on to visit a series of political, cultural and economic events before departing Hungary from the southern part of the country via Pec airport. Prior to his departure, Crown Prince Felipe had inaugurated a Hungarian- Spanish business forum in Budapest. Hungary only joined the European Union on May 1, along with nine other new member states, bringing the union’s membership up to twenty-five nations.
